The South East Backcountry Discovery Route is a long-form adventure through the Southeast — starting on Florida's Gulf Coast and climbing north through Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina before reaching Damascus, Virginia. It mixes remote gravel, forest roads, rougher two-track, creek crossings, small towns, mountain overlooks, and stretches of pavement that are every bit as memorable as the dirt.
Western North Carolina is where the ride turns up. The route moves from Tennessee through the Nantahala region and Maggie Valley, then into Pisgah country, past high-elevation overlooks and Appalachian Trail landmarks, including the area around Max Patch and Hot Springs. Asheville gives riders a practical place to begin, get equipped, and build a trip around the SEBDR or the surrounding Blue Ridge backcountry.
