SEBDR Section 8
Maggie Valley to Hot Springs, NC
The Ride Experience
Section 8 of the South East Backcountry Discovery Route (SEBDR) takes you from the bustling motorcycle hub of Maggie Valley all the way to the Appalachian Trail town of Hot Springs. This route is a phenomenal mix of remote gravel, forest service roads, and tight, twisty pavement sections connecting the dirt.
You'll experience deep forest canopies, stream crossings, and elevation changes that demand your attention. The scenery is classic Appalachia—misty ridges, dense greenery, and a true sense of backcountry isolation.
Expert Riding Tips
- Watch the Weather: The dirt sections can become slick and deeply rutted after heavy rain. Check conditions before heading out.
- Tire Pressure: Air down slightly for the gravel sections to improve traction, but remember to air back up for the paved connectors.
- Pace Yourself: 60 miles of backcountry riding is much more tiring than 60 miles on the highway. Plan for breaks and stay hydrated.
