Section 7 of the SEBDR is a long, rewarding, and challenging push through some of the deepest backcountry in the Smoky Mountains region. Connecting Andrews to Maggie Valley, this 100-mile stretch will test your endurance and your technical off-road skills.
Expect rocky ascents, tight switchbacks, and rugged dirt tracks that wind through lush Appalachian forests. It's a full-day commitment that rewards you with incredible isolation, raw mountain beauty, and a true sense of adventure riding accomplishment.
Expert Riding Tips
- Start Early: 100 miles of technical dirt takes significantly longer than you think. Leave early to avoid riding these trails in the dark.
- Pack Supplies: Services are extremely limited on this section. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a basic tool kit.
- Momentum is Key: On the rocky, steeper climbs, keep your momentum steady and your eyes looking ahead, not down at your front tire.

Take I-40 West to US-74 West (Great Smoky Mountains Expressway). Follow US-74 W past Bryson City and through the Nantahala Gorge to Andrews.
Est. Transit Time: 1 hour 45 minutes to Andrews start point. Many riders choose to ride this section backwards (Maggie Valley to Andrews) if starting from Asheville.
