The Ride Experience
NC-209, affectionately known as "The Rattler," is a favorite among locals. It offers a perfect mix of tight, technical switchbacks and beautiful, rolling valley straights through historic farmland.
Starting near Hot Springs, NC and winding its way south towards Waynesville, The Rattler demands your attention. The road tightens up significantly as it climbs and descends the mountain passes, offering 234 curves in roughly 24 miles.
It's less crowded than the Dragon, but just as rewarding for a skilled rider looking to carve up some technical Appalachian pavement.
Expert Rider Tips
- Watch for Driveways: Unlike the Parkway or the Dragon, The Rattler has residential driveways and farm access. Watch for turning vehicles.
- Decreasing Radius Turns: Several corners tighten up unexpectedly. Trail brake and look through the turn.
- Stop at Trust: The Trust General Store is a classic motorcycle stop in the middle of the route. Great place for a break.
