    The Ride Experience

Often overshadowed by the nearby Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway is, to many riders, the superior road. It's a $100 million scenic byway that crosses through the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests.

Instead of tight, technical switchbacks, the Skyway offers long, perfectly cambered sweepers that allow you to establish a beautiful, rhythmic flow. The views from the mile-high ridges are vast and uninterrupted.

Because it's less famous than the Dragon, it sees significantly less traffic and virtually no commercial trucks. It's pure, unadulterated motorcycle bliss stretching from North Carolina into Tennessee.

    Expert Rider Tips

    • No Gas or Facilities: There is no gas or food for the entire 43-mile stretch. Fuel up in Robbinsville, NC or Tellico Plains, TN.
    • Watch Your Speed: The wide, smooth sweepers make it very easy to accidentally carry too much speed. Ride your own ride.
    • Temperature Drops: Climbing to nearly 5,400 feet means a significant temperature drop. Bring a layer.
